Inspiration?
One of the top 5 questions I get asked, whether pertaining to my music or the author side of things, is: Where do you get your inspiration?
Well, I’ll explain the biggest form of it right now, very quickly.
I’m sitting here, going about my normal day while off tour, working on things. I look out the window in my office at my apartment and notice a swarm of something (looks like a hell-ton of gnats to me.) I then immediately open a blank text file and start typing for about 45 seconds. I finish, and it turns out to be a poem that has nothing to do with gnats, but instead a poem about war and myself.
My point of this is to say, as I usually stress to people, writing should never be forced. It’s meant to be a natural thing. Inspiration is a strange thing, and a very loveable one at that. Be patient with it, and it will be kind to you.
