a poem of sorts.

Here’s a quick something I’ve jotted down, in these very early hours of today.

“Hear me! Hear me!”
I’ve just arrived home after a sixteen hour drive from New York.

I played my heart out yesterday…
to a room of about 15 people
(that still had their souls intact.)
While I was singing
I could hear conversations happening
in the bar beside the stage.
And all I could think,
over and over again,
until I was screaming in my head, was,
“Hear me! Hear me!”
But no one can hear you
if the words you’re singing in your head
are different from those leaving your lips.

It’s 5:51am now.
All of the lights are still on in my bedroom,
as I’m laying here,
still going over words you and I spoke over the phone
a matter of minutes ago.
And I just wanted to let you know,…
I dream of a day when the home I speak of,
and the home you speak of,
are the same place.

I find it funny
how you actually mentioned something to that effect
in passing, just yesterday,
mere hours after I had pondered grinningly
over the thought
the whole drive to New York City.
I think that’s one reason why we work so well together,
there’s just something that clicks,
between you and me.

Not a soul
has ever fully understood
the way
my brain
ticks.
But you, you’re different.
You don’t need to understand it,
you simply accept that it’s ticking.
And for some reason,
though our minds work
in these completely separate ways
on many occassions,
together I believe they smile
when we’re holding hands
and talking about the next time this city
will sleep just long enough
for us to make a wish
on one of its fallen eyelashes.

I hope you’re wide asleep and dreaming, by now.
And however selfish it may be,
I hope the dream you’re dreaming
is of me.
