This photograph I’m looking at…
it’s got you, and I’m in it, too.
The funny thing is,
we were in the middle of Navy Pier,
in Chicago.
The lights from the city can be seen for miles.
Like a lighthouse to a ship,
this city could lead a car to it, simply through its luminance.
And in this photo,
we were standing in front of a scene full of lights,
carousels, and a giant ferris wheel.
The funny thing is,
despite all of the brilliant colors,
manmade bulbs of light, and everything else around,…
the only thing you can see in this photograph
is you and me.
I’ve thought about it,
and it’s not because this moment was planned out ahead of time by fate,
it’s not because the camera’s flash didn’t have better things to latch onto, no no.
I believe it’s because you and I are the happiest fools a city could own.
And the camera, it can’t pick up happiness or love if you tell it to,…
but it can tell the truth.
And the truth is, babe, I’m my brightest when I’m with you.
