i love america, but…
I’ve never been able to get as excited about the fourth of July as everyone else seems to. I mean, I’m all about us gaining our independence years and years ago, but I just don’t see the fun in wasting money on things that go boom and cookouts with family just one day a year.
Basically, what I’m getting at is…
why can’t we just do this kind of stuff more often?
Why does everyone wait for holidays to come together and appreciate the people and country around them?
It’s taken me 21 years to figure out my problem with this holiday…
and now I’ve finally figured out that what I just typed above is EXACTLY what I think is wrong with it.
P.S. - Actually, I remember typing something about not liking the 4th of July last year, and I literally got attacked for ‘hating America!’….. so I’m just going to go ahead and re-state here to say, I love this country just as much as the next person that lives here. If you read the above statements I made and don’t take them out of context then you’ll easily see that I just think all of us here don’t actually love our country enough.
P.P.S. - Happy Independence Day, everyone! I sincerely hope you have an amazing day. Whether it be with friends, family, or strangers. Whether the only fireworks you get to see are from your apartment window. Whether you’re simply driving on the interstate and happen to see a colorful bloom of temporary lights in the sky. I just hope you make sure to appreciate the people and land around you, because I know I don’t do that enough. So I’m sure as hell going to make tonight a good starting point. Happy 4th.
:)
