Chuck Klosterman mentions this album in one of my favorite books, “Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs”. After hearing his story of it in the book I’ve always wanted to hear it, but I had never really listened to Mr. Joel’s music before. About three weeks ago I was sitting in the dentist office and a song came on the light rock station they had playing lightly through the speakers. I immediately loved it, did my best to hear a bit of the lyrics as correctly as possible, and pulled my BlackBerry out right away to look up the lyrics “…everybody’s talkin’ ‘bout the new sound funny, but it’s still rock n’ roll to me…”. It was then that I found out (despite always thinking for some reason that Billy Joel only played songs like “Piano Man” and never really listened, myself) that I just might love this man’s music. So I got back to my apartment and bought the song on iTunes, and have listened to it on repeat for about literally three weeks. Since hearing the song I decided I wanted to have the album the song was from, but I didn’t want to buy it from iTunes, I wanted to actually be able to hold it, because I really felt like it could be the album for me that it is for Chuck Klosterman. So yesterday I was in Borders killing some time, and I happened upon “Glass Houses”. Not having known that “It’s Still Rock N Roll To Me” was actually from the album, I looked at the tracklisting, and sure enough, there it was. I grabbed the album a bit tighter in my hands, and without hearing a second of it other than that one song I already knew I was about to buy an album that will serve as another soundtrack to my life.I apologize for the fact that this little blurb of a blog post doesn’t really have any meaning other than to say that I’ve found another one of my favorite albums of all-time. I just fucking love when music comes out of nowhere like this and gives me a breath of fresh air.
