Tonight I went to my cousin’s wedding.
And, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but just never had…
But I was sitting by my grandmother at the reception, and it was during a little intermission between dinner and the bride and groom’s first dance…
And I just turned to her and started asking her about her life.
I asked her about how she had met my grandfather.
And how long they lived in France.
And if she learned to speak French while she was there.
And she told me she didn’t like champagne, and a woman lived above them in France and gave her and my grandfather a bottle every new year while they were there.
It made me happy to hear and learn. It’s honestly one of my favorite things I’ve probably done in the past 5 years of my life, as weird as that may sound.
I think one thing that made me even more happy about it… Was how vividly she recalled it all, and how, even if it wasn’t really showing, I felt like she really enjoying remembering it all and sharing it with me.
Sorry.
This is probably of no importance to anyone.
it’s just… I forgot where I heard it, but I think it was literally four or five years ago my history professor in college said once that we should all go home and simply speak to our grandparents about their lives. Ever since, I had always wanted to, and today I finally did.
I guess my point of this is to say, as weird as it may sound, I feel like you all should do the same. You don’t have to today, or tomorrow… But someday, you should.

This is beautiful. And something I too have wanted to do, but the language barrier for me has made it difficult. Definitely reassuring to hear:)
